About Steve

Steve Belcher

Steve’s lifelong commitment to service began with his years in the United States Army from 1982 to 1985 and has continued for more than 41 years in kidney care. His journey started as a dialysis technician, where he spent a decade learning firsthand the challenges patients with kidney disease face. One patient’s encouragement inspired him to pursue nursing school, launching a career rooted in compassion, leadership, and advocacy.

Over the years, Steve has traveled across the United States serving as a charge nurse, acute dialysis nurse, and regional nurse manager, where he oversaw three nursing home dialysis centers and led teams dedicated to excellence in patient care. His experience spans nearly every level of kidney care, giving him a deep and practical understanding of the needs of patients and families navigating dialysis and chronic kidney disease.

Steve is also the author of four books: *How to Survive Outpatient Hemodialysis: A Guide for Patients with Kidney Failure*, *The Dialysis Patient Handbook of Information*, *Conquering the Big Three: A Guide to Diabetes, Hypertension, & Kidney Disease*, and *Navigating the Dialysis Journey: A Guide for Families*. Through his writing, Steve continues his mission to educate, empower, and support patients and families with trusted, compassionate guidance.

He holds two master’s degrees from Walden University — a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Leadership and Management, and a Master of Science in Health Education and Promotion — along with a post-master’s certificate in Non-Profit Management. Steve is also a recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award Gold Medal Honor, recognizing his dedication to service and impact in the community.

Today, Steve’s mission is more personal than ever. Living with stage 2 kidney disease himself, he is doing everything possible to slow its progression while using his voice, experience, and platform to help others on their own kidney health journey. He remains deeply committed to helping patients with kidney disease live with dignity, knowledge, and hope, and is currently working on a documentary, *The American Kidney Crisis*, to raise awareness and inspire change in the kidney health community.
